Whil

At Whil, a transformative digital platform empowering individuals to reduce stress, enhance sleep quality, and elevate mental well-being, I played a pivotal role in orchestrating a comprehensive redesign. This overhaul positioned the platform for scalable growth and strategic partnerships with industry leaders such as Aetna and Virgin Pulse, ensuring an impactful user experience at every touchpoint.

What is Whil

Whil’s leading digital wellbeing training helps employees reduce stress, increase resiliency and improve their performance, relationships and sleep. 30+ training goals supported by 200+ programs and 1,250+ sessions based in science, mindfulness and positive psychology.

Issues with the old design

Bad User Experience.

The original app and website had a content-heavy, poorly organized interface. The user experience was confusing with unclear paths in several areas, many in both onboarding and training pages. Overall usability was difficult and not intuitive enough for the users to navigate easily.

Unclear value.

While the company has a clearly defined value statement, within the app that same message was lost as it was unclear to the user what the purpose of training was to achieve. This in turn, led to poor user engagement.

Not scalable.

The original architecture of the app was not able to adapt to growing business. Partnering with other companies required a product that was ready to accommodate their particular needs and enroll a large number of their company users. If attempted, the app would simply crash.

My Role

  • UX/UI

  • UX Documentation

  • Marketing material

Being part of a small team consisting of 2-3 people I played a major role in designing the platform. Partnering with another designer I created wireframes, documentation and produced assets to hand off to development.

I worked with the Marketing and Sales teams to help design Whil’s marketing strategy in various mediums (ex: website, printed collaterals).

Process

We began the redesign by re-mapping the whole experience. We started by organizing the content (grouping training sessions by the category, etc). We defined the purpose for each training and created a clear path to help the user set and achieve their goals by completing a session or course.

Next we produced a set of wireframes that went through a number of revisions. Each user flow was documented. Each screen of documentation had clearly defined functionality and active regions. Due to the time constraints and limited resources approved wireframes went directly to development while we were working in parallel on the UI. Design and Development teams worked in the close collaborations and were able to resolve any emerging issues together on the spot.

We did not have a budget for a Researcher and worked with the Customer Success team on getting real customer feedback. The feedback was analyzed and translated into design improvements which led to better customer satisfaction.

Results

As a result of our effort we were able to produce a very highly rated native app for both iOS and Android platforms. The company brought on board thousands of new users by partnering with companies like CVS Health, Virgin Pulse, Square, Havas and many others.

Imagery

Whil is a new way to look at mindfulness. So it makes sense that we want to look different than the clichéd images we’ve seen around traditonal yoga, mindfulness and wellbeing.

Our audience is alive, busy, struggling with the everyday, they’re everywhere. They are innovative professionals commuting to the Valley. They are teenagers feeling more confident in themselves. They are executives of every type practicing a competitive advantage. They are anyone who seeks to reach new heights of mental and physical wellbeing to get more out of life.
